Gambling should be entertainment that you can afford. If it starts to cost more money or time than you planned, help is free and confidential.

Legal age

You must be 19 or older to gamble in most provinces and territories, and 18 or older in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.

Where to get help

  • ConnexOntario — 1-866-531-2600, free and available 24/7.
  • Responsible Gambling Council — responsiblegambling.org, advice for players and families.
  • GameSense — information and advisors from the provincial lottery corporations.

Self-exclusion

Provincial programs let you block yourself from gambling venues and provincial sites for a period you choose. In Alberta the AGLC program also covers online play. Licensed online casinos offer their own self-exclusion and cool-off tools in the account settings.

Limits that work

  1. Set a deposit limit in your account before your first deposit.
  2. Decide on a time limit and use the session reminder if the casino offers one.
  3. Never chase losses — a loss is the price of the entertainment, not a debt to win back.
  4. Keep gambling money separate from money for bills and savings.
